5R110W Specialty Tools

I decided to purchased a Revmax 850+ HP rebuild kit and install it myself while my block is at the machine shop. Does anyone have recommendations on where or how to rent the specialty tools to do the job by the ATSG manual? Other than the Rotunda kit I believe I also need a spring compression tool to rebuild the drums. I am going to call Ed at FICMrepair and see what he thinks since I’ve rented some tools in the past from him and their site states they now rent some of the transmission specialty tools but I don’t see all of them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know much about this, but from watching videos, it appeared the only tool you would need is a metal coat hanger wire :-)

No sir, there are a number of tools needed, one of which is a spring compression tool to remove the drum pistons and some of the others are gauges to test protrusion on certain parts. I know the coat hanger Hiram Gutierrez uses replaces one of the specialty tools but there are a lot more per the ATSG manual for this particular transmission. Scroll down to the bottom of this PDF manual and the tools are listed with images.
You guys that haven’t seen this might be interested in how the 5R110W works, procedures to follow etc...

I actually think this manual should be a sticky in the Tech Folder if it isn’t already there.

For a couple of bux a local trans shop would probably do it. That beats laying out cash for a hopefully one time use tool.

Good docs. With all those tools, I don't know how many of those tools one can get by without needing them. That's a lot of tools to get.

That’s my other option but only if I can’t find a way to get the tools without spending a thousand bucks to buy them. The RevMax built transmission for my horsepower range is $5700 plus $2500 core charge then tax. The 850hp rebuild kit is $3500 but I forfeit my tranny warranty by not buying the built unit.

No problem! There’s some key info about halfway down that applies to everyone that drives a truck with this transmission. It’s the relearn procedure if you ever disconnect the batteries, drain the batteries, a new PCM has been installed or calibration has been reflashed. The adaptive strategy must be updated.

The relearn procedure is to speed up the process. If you don't do that process the software will still learn, but it will take longer.

I aways felt the shifting, stock or tuned. This morning i returned the truck to stock and performed that relearn process. So far I can barely feel the truck shifting.

If you find a great deal on a quality "kit" please share. This is always in the back of mind.
