Spotted this short bed for sale on ebay. Too far for me (Delaware) and it is pretty pricey, but it is in pretty good shape other than the wheel arches. Maybe this is what one of you needs (I need one myself, but I'll wait for something closer)

Thanks for the heads up and the depressing asking price. That also let me know that boy did I ever sale my extra one with dent and race trac trim AND duel gas tank flaps WAY to cheap.

Yes, it is a depressing price. I still hope to find one near me for less than this or a donor truck.
On the other hand, it isn't sold so who knows if they will get this for it. If you were in the area with cash in hand you could probably get a much better deal.

He has a nice lookin hood on there as well, which I actually need one. He has a ton of parts if you look thru his listings. It is amazing how the Bed alone cost about as much as some people would pay for an entire truck with an Swiss cheese bed.

So I know where there is a SB 4x4 that I think the last time I saw it for sale they were asking $1000. I have thought about going and asking if they'd still sell it. I'm sure it's fairly rough as it's been sitting in their yard for 20 years. But if its complete I may try and drag it home.

Not too far out of line. I sold a 91 8 ft bed a few years ago for $850. Wonder what I can get for a 79 8 ft bed that needs wheel arch repairs??

The thing is the tailgate is worth at least $300 alone. I've seen the aluminum Ford emblem on the tailgate go for $200 by itself.

Look at it this way, how much is the body work for a basket case box? Even if you have the time and skill, it still cost you in your time and materials. $1k could be cheap to some people. I paid just over that for a complete truck to bypass all the body work BS.
