Quick run down and hello to all out there. I have been using this site for quite a while (call me a lurker, but I have actually been putting the information I have found to good use).
I have gone through a few trucks and suvs since I have signed up and I always seem on the verge of asking a question or needing advice on a subject, but I usually figure it out Often with your help of others or I go to the shop and pay$$$.
Now I need a question answered because I don't want to go to the stereo store (I really don't like those guys).
Does anyone have the speaker wiring diagram for a 1994 f-150 XLT standard cab?
I just installed 4 new speakers, and had to guess on the + and -. It sounds great, and I kept the tape deck (Where else can I play my old tapes, but in my old truck?). I just want it to be correct. The new speakers had stuff mounted on the back side and it seemed like they should be wired correctly, where as the old ones (factory) didn't designate + or -. I cut the factory connectors and tested the first two speakers to see if it made a difference which way it was wired. It didn't seem to, so the next two just got wired up like the first two (sort of), but the colors were very different. I couldn't find anything in my Haynes manual or on line (without signing up for something). So, I am asking for your help.
Similar to David, I had a stereo guy tell me to use a AAA battery, and hold it to the wires, correct the speaker will push out, backwards it will pull in. He claimed 1.5 volts won’t hurt a speaker - used that trick many times in old trucks and equipment, haven’t had an issue...
Primary reason of the test procedure is that there are recorded instances of this gen Ford vehicles having reversed wiring color codes with correct polarity.
The above diagrams will give you the correct speaker location for sure.
In my experience, the factory wiring does not keep the grounds separated properly. If you put in an aftermarket stereo, the stereo effect will not work properly unless you rewire.
