Ok, so after a long time of me being off of this forum I'm back with a question. Ok so today I pull the PCM on my 97 f250 to install a hydra but find a little surprise; a hardwired hypertech chip. So my question is, can I remove myself? If I was to cut the wires then cover the ends with silicone or something simular would that be safe for my PCM? Or would it be better to try and unsolder it or sent it off to have it removed? Would I run into any problems removing it myself, such as the PCM not working right? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I would contact diesel technology Chattanooga in hixson Tn. Google all that, I can't seem to post a link. they are very good with these pcm's. I wouldn't know a good answer for you.
Looks just like a piggyback PCB with a handful of wires to intercept factory commands and replace with the chip commands. Dealt with this on many Grey Market cars over the years.

I spoke with bill corhor just a little bit ago ( hes one of the big wigs power hungry performance) on Facebook and he told me that it would be harmless to unsolder it and I asked him if I could just cut the ribbon wire and he said I could but wouldn't be as good as unsoldering. I may go ahead tomorrow and cut it real close to the board and put some silicone over what is still sticking up.

I got to speak with bill corhor over at PHP just a bit ago and he seemed to think it'd be ok to cut lose, but better to unsolder. I'll give them a call though if I chicken out on cutting it out
Also, does anybody know how I can find my PCM code? The sticker on my PCM has fallen off and I don't know what the code is and don't know how to find it.
Update, I remove the old hardwired chip and installed the hydra, but nowci get no start with or without the hydra plugged in. I have the wait to start light and check engine light and the pickup will crank, just won't start.
I am in DFW. It would be to you be Wednesday at latest.
Mine ended up working again. I cut the old school chip out that I was talking about at the top of thos thread but had to solder it back in for it to work. I do need a different one though do I can use my hydra.
