What is the purpose of reflashing the PCM? Just been looking around at various diesel sites and there was something about having an older PCM reflashed to the MLE1 program. While I am here asking questions, been looking at the Black Cloud Diesel HPX kit. Anyone notice an improvement in idle after doing this? Figure for the price, might be a worthy mod.
Cheers
a lot of folks with autos like the tde0 and tde1 programs due to the way it shifts and gp technology. another reason is to activate the obd2 port on the 94 and 95 psd's.
3 ways to do it.
go to ford delaer
send it to jody tipton
get a good chip. it will overide pcm.
part 2
not sure of bcd price. i have purchased from them before but i bought mine from dale at tymar for around 30. i have had it on for a year or more now and it works great. truck idles smooth. it was a big change when i first swapped over i remember. now my truck just runs good all the time.
a good mod for the $.

thanks for the helpful info. So I can just get chip instead of having it reflashed
Are there certain chips you would reccomend, can I get a custom program?
Just to double check, if I get a chip and it overides current pcm, then I can use Autoenginuity while the chip is in with good results correct
I think removing the PCM from your truck to get it flashed would be a major PITA.
However, you will probably have to remove it for a chip install, if it is the first chip ever for the PCM.
My '95 5 speed was re-flashed before I bought it in response to a Technical Service bulletin issued in '96. It has a sticker on the air intake horn indicating the re-flash was done.
Yours may have the sticker or a notation in the service record book indicating that it has already been done.
Mine is also running a tuner, so I can't say what effect the flash alone had on performance or drivability.
Unless you are on very good terms with your dealership, you will not be offered a choice on what program you are flashed to. You will simply get the most updated version of the program you already have....and that's only if it's available or there's a TSB for it.
To change the base program the only viable option for the masses is the aftermarket.
