Hey guys, yesterday my throttle cable gave out on my '66... I've found a lot of posts out there regarding cables but but not many of them are geared to 4WD and those that are have been for I6 engines. In my truck, someone replaced the original I6 with a 360 FE sometime in the past so I'm not sure what cable I would need.. I assume it would be the same as a 352 but that's why I'm checking in with you guys. I've seen C5TZ9A758AH listed in other posts for 352 engines but I also saw it's listed as 2WD only which puzzles me. Any suggestions for an original part number would be really appreciated but if you've been in the same situation and figured out an after market solution that doesn't require replacing everything from my linkage to my gas pedal I'm open to that too. I just want to get her back on the road.
Yes, the MPC also doesn't seem to make it clear. But, the 1966 shop manual sure does. That cable you mention should be the one, correct for 1966 F100 4x4 352 among others. Here's the setup.
If you have the bracket on the firewall that looks like this then you should be golden.
The 1966 F100 4x4 with the 240 or 300 like you said your truck was originally - looks like they used about the same bracket so you could be in luck there. Everything in the cab is the same from what I can tell, so it's only from the firewall outward.
Starting in June 1965 with sequence number 696,001 and carrying through the entire 1966 year they changed to a "floating" gas pedal for the F100/250 2WD and for the 1966 F100 4x4. The assembly inside the cab that the accelerator pedal attaches to looks like this
C5TZ-9725-Z - Accelerator Assembly - 1 each
The accelerator cable attaches to the top round ball and the gas pedal hooks to the small round bar across the bottom. The gas pedal slips onto the bar and then there are these tiny little bushings that install on either end of the bar, then a "C" washer or circlip on the outboard ends. If you ever take it apart keep a close eye on these parts - they are available NOS and probably aftermarket, but if they aren't broken.....
C5AZ-9873-B - Accelerator Pedal Hinge Bushing - .189" I.D. x .234" O.D. x .125" long - 2 each
Here's some pics of what I got. Warranty plate is gone but the VIN is F11YL9858. I haven't gotten around to climbing under the truck to try and verify the VIN yet but as it's 4WD with 4 drum brakes I have a fairly high assurance the frame is right.
