2017 F250 6.7 PSD Towing in 100 degree heat. Engine performance, shifting, jake brake, etc video.

Hey Guys,

So I wanted to create a video showing how our vehicles perform towing. The day I had this planned it was 100 degrees outside. Perfect. I have a highway run I have made other videos on showing MPG...normal driving, extreme MPG, etc.

This video shows while towing a 11,500 travel trailer how the engine performs shifting, tackling a 4% grade at 65 MPG (I know it's no Ike Gauntlet Ha ha) then some engine brake/jake brake performance.

My engine coolant went over 215 so the numerical reading does appear in the video. I think it made it's way all the way to 225 during my video. So heat sink was occurring and the engine just kept on trucking along.

Outside temps were 100 but due to the high humidity the heat index was around 107. Brutal.

This video may help anyone looking to see how the engines perform while towing under rather hot conditions with hills, etc.

Pulling my 14k fifth wheel gets the temps up a bit when going up grades. When they get hot enough, about the 225 range (coolant) or slightly higher, you will here hear the fan kick in, sounds like a jet engine, then about as fast as 1 degree per second, the temps will drop. That is some serious heat management/reduction. I was really impressed, coolant dropped from about 230 to 180 in about 1 minute. Then the fan disengaged and you would have never known it except the sound of the moving air. This was in 95 degree heat climbing up the 8W heading to San Diego from El Centro.
Oil and transmission temps would rise and fall at about the same rate as the coolant so the systems seem to really work well together without having one get really hot while the others are lower temps.
Our engines do have a 35 quart (primary only) cooling system. That is huge, almost 9 gallons.

I just got back from a trip with our 2011 F450 and out eagle cap 1200 about 16,000 total weight. going to Page Arizona on 89A it was 110 degrees. trans, coolant and engine oil temps never got higher than any other times during the trip. 240 max for engine oil, 220 coolant and under 200 for transmission. very impressed for a rig with 150,000 miles.
