52 f3 gas tank

Hi fellas, I am relocating gas tank to rear of bed. Previous threads from others show different ways of mounting to the frame. Tanks inc. Says the vent should be higher than the fillerneck, but if the filler neck ends at the bed floor, how do you get higher than that? Can I just use a vented cap? What am I not understanding? Thanks, larry

Run the vent up in the wheel well, with continuous upward slope, and a 180 degree inverted loop at the top.

what was I thinking.... a roll over vent valve works for that with a short section of tubing. my filler is in the bed so I'm only about 5" higher.. and it's 2" in diameter

I also agree with Ross. If the vent is lower than the filler neck, gas could/would leak out through the vent if you filled the tank to neck level.

Hey Larry,
We put a 20 gallon '70 Mustang tank back under our bed. Just about 40% more range than stock.
I would highly recommend going the rollover vent route .... we had it venting to a charcoal canister
we picked up at salvage. The truck free venting into the garage ...the smell was noticeable until
we put in the charcoal canister.

I will be sure to use a rollover vent valve. The wheel well option makes good sense to me. Ben, i'm probably going with that same tank. Some day i'Ll post pictures, but my 7 year old grandson will have to do it for me. He is smarter than me with computers. Everyone have a good weekend. Larry

Hey Larry,
The biggest challenge isn't in mounting the gas tank. Though we did have to have to move one
brace to get enough space for the tank. Be sure to think through the gas gauge & sending unit before mounting up your
tank. The gauge has to talk to the sending unit & be compatible. In our case were using new after market Autometer
gauges that went from 0 to 200 ohms. The '70 mustang sending unit worked in a range from something like 7 to 80 ohms.
We used the '70 mustang unit to get the nice stock fuel pick up for the line into the tank. We then clipped off the floating arm piece & soldered on a
universal sending unit that worked on the same 0 to 200 ohms as our gauge.

There are other solutions to this challenge....just be sure to sort this out before mounting up your tank & filling it with gas... ask me
how I know.

Here is an article by one of our members John Niolon that outlines the process for mounting up
a Mustang Tank. I followed John's process for our build and it worked great.
