Vibration/shutter on my '03
Hi Guy's,
Any thoughts on this, I just got this '03 F150 with 60,000 miles. I had my mechanic go thru this truck, he said it was all good, I did have him change the transmission fluid. It was the only thing that was done. once in a while when I start out I'll get a slight vibration, or slight shutter, it doesn't do it too often, and it goes right away, any thoughts on what it could be ?
Thanks !

your going to have to run for a while and get more info... Are you saying when you start the motor in the morning it shutters for a few second then cleans up... or when your stopped at a stop sign and start moving, it shutters till you get to 10 mph ? Does it do it only on cold startup ? Does it do it after it warms up ?
First thing in the am, the fuel rail might not be to full pressure. When you startup, the fuel pump has to fill the line.. Might shutter for a few seconds until the pump gets up to pressure.
Monitor the radiator coolant overflow tank... does it use any fluid ( drop in a month ?)

I would say 50% of these problems are misfire of one cylinder. There are COPS ( coils) one on each cylinder ( I assume you have a V8). One of the COPS is starting to break down and miss under load. Sometimes you can be moving at 40 mph, punch the throttle and "make" it do it ? Normally the problem will get worse over time, then will be easier to find. When bad enough, a CODE ( light) will be set on the dash and then you can determine which cylinder is the problem........ of course, there are other possibilities, but COP failure would be most common

I was trying to get him to say weather or not it happened when he started out with the wheels turned or straight. I still don’t know if it happens when starting out with the wheels turned, as in going around a corner. Do you think it does?
