I am on desperate need of help diagnosing my transmission issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated! My truck is an early 1999 F250 superduty with a 7.3l diesel. After completing a brake job I got in and went for a short lived test drive. All was running and shifting well up until I pulled up to a stop light. Upon attempting to accelerate I discovered my transmission had lost all gear functions, completely without sign or warning. I got out, verified fluid level was ok, got back in and shifted through all gears to verify lack of function. I then for ****s and giggles shut the truck off and restarted it and regained full function for 100 yards or so. I repeated this process of shutting down and restarting in order to nurse her home. Any help or insight would be very greatly appreciated!
thanks, brandon
I'm sorry it failed without sign or warning. At the factory, every transmission is told that it MUST give 24-hour notice of when it's going to die. I'm sorry your transmission didn't follow it's instructions.
Most likely the forward clutch has failed. Try it with the shift lever in 1 and also in 2. Does it work in those positions?
Lmao, mine didn't get the memo. I have no gear function no matter which one I start in when it is non responsive. I do however have full functionality occasionally after shutting truck completely off and restarting.
It could be loose feed bolts. These bolts are located under the valve body, inside the pan. If they loosen pressure is leaked and clutches won't apply.
If that isn't the problem, then it's had an internal failure. It's rebuild or replace time. Sorry.
