Help with fuel filler placement

Hello everyone, I'm very new, and this is my first truck, so bare with me. Recently acquired a '78 F-100, previous owner put a 7th gen flare side bed on it. Obviously the fuel filler didn't meet up with the hole in the front of the fender, so they just ran it straight up through a hole they cut in the bed. I should also mention that the bed floor was cut out, rust got it. Then they bolted some scrap steel in place with a rubber mat over it to replace the original bed. It looks to me like there will not be enough clearance between the frame and the bed floor for the fuel filler hose if I replace it as it sits. Is there a clearance issue between the different model gens? Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you solve it? I've looked for pics of the placement, checked a few different trucks in person, but I haven't really seen one with the same setup I have. Any help would be great, thank you.

Maybe too radical but I've seen Mustang tanks with the filler in center rear used by placing the fuel door in the bed.

That space the the rubber filler neck has is about normal. Hit up a JY for the correct filler neck for that bed?

Good idea. Let's see some pix of the left side of the bed and fender.

really I'm not opposed to that at all, I gotta either cut the fender or the bed, how much do those mustang tanks cost? Or could a guy mod a rubber neck up to the existing fuel door?

I like the clean look of no fuel doors. A 20 gallon tank for a '71 Mustang is $175.70 from Summit. I haven't checked the dimensions so do that before pulling the trigger.
