I just bought a 390 to swap into my 1976 f250 4x4 as my current 360 is pretty tired and started with some noises. This swap should result in a lot more power as it is fresh and a small cam resulting in what the PO though was about 350 hp. While performing the swap, I might as well get a new torque converter in there as well. Most of the truck is factory so I assume the 4.10 or 4.11 gears and I am running 33 inch tires although may go to 35 sometime. The lowest stall speed torque converter I can find is 2000, will that be too high for this heavy truck? Should I go factory and what is factory?
The RV/Towing converter is not that much different from stock. The vanes in the converter are set for better power transfer. It should act a lot like a stock converter. If your worried about heat, add a trans cooler, it won't hurt. They are not that expensive and fairly easy to install.
At the stop light you probably won't notice any difference.
Never assume what your gear ratio is. Triple check it visually.

I think they only put that gear ratio in from the factory for the f 250 4x4 auto. Any brand recommendations for a torque converter?
