I just started working on a 1947 pickup that has been sitting in a field for 30 years. The serial number says its a Y code meaning a 1 ton but the wheel base is 114 inches. Everything I have read does not agree with what I have, they say a 1 ton has a 122 inch wheelbase---any idea what I have?
Seems I've heard of this a few times now and if I'm not mistaken they involved stamping between half tons and the one ton. Methinks there was a bit of creative inventory going on during the war years and then later with the fast approaching transition to the F1 models. Maybe there's a for real factory 114 inch wheelbase one ton out there some where.
My '46 1/2 ton is also improperly stamped with a "Y". I think this is around 3 or 4 just here that are marked that way. The stamp guy had a hangover that day?
