had just got done filling up with diesel, drove 1/4 mile and truck just died. tried to start it and nothing. no power to edge tuner either. fuse #22 20a under steering column blown (engine control). replaced and keeps blowing. not sure what is causing it. any help would be appreciated.
Any thing plugged into the OBD2 port?
If so you might try unplugging it to see if it helps.
Also FiznUKa has a good idea on checking for any
shorts in the fan controls. Check where it branches
off at the fuel filter and work your way out from there.
Here are some PDF wiring diagrams to work from for your year.
If you find something you need other pages for just let me know.
EDIT : The one titled Power Distribution and Engine controls are good to start with.
well, the dealership wants 3k to replace the engine harness, but said they could do a 4 hr diagnostic to determine where the "short" is in the wiring. told them to do that. does $3k sound reasonable?
The part is somewhere around $1000 from memory.
and I am thinking it was more like $700~$800 from
Ed. So I would if I was sure that was the issue do it my self.
The job is not that hard at all.
Except mine is a 2003. Do u think I could get some of those pdfs but for a 03 6.0l? Please if u have them. My truck did the same exact thing..died while driving. Turn the key, none of the usual noises, nothing at all actually. had it towed home. checked fuses #22 and 1 other 20 amp one was blown replaced them. Put key in and turned it not all the way things sounded & looked normal went to turn it the rest of the way blew fuse 22. Did that a few more times till I ran out of 20 amp fuses. Found out about the yellow/ lt blue wire to + battery terminal truck started right up. From then on the key would start it only like 2 times did I have to jump it like that. Like 2 weeks later, got in the truck to go somewhere within 2 blocks from my house it died had to have it towed again. Same fuse blown only this time the yellow/ lt blue wire won't start it. It just cranks. To me it sounds like its cranking too slow. my Obd scanner thing says it cannot connect so I don't know if any dtcs come up. I've looked threw all the forums and checked everything I could find. Batteries says 12 I don't know Jack about batteries so I dunno if that's good or not. Someone please help . I can't afford a mechanic because I have a stupid $454/mo truck payment for this truck and I can't get it to run :[
First thing is to charge the batteries and then individually load test them.
and they were bad but then I put in 2 batteries I knew were good and still nothing. The injectors did their ticking thing. The wait to start took a long time to go off. But still turn the key and nothing. When I jump the starter and it cranks it doesn't sound like its going fast enough.
thanks in advance for any help/advice
This motor is too complicated and parts too expensive to start playing a guessing game of all the possible issues.
After 20 fuses, it ain't the fuse. Nor will a larger fuse help. It's probably a short in the wiring and that would have to be hunted down. Maybe wire, maybe sensor. Are you good with electronics?
Also anyone who is going to give advice is going to ask for data, just as a mechanic looks at. So a monitor that can read what the trucks computer is seeing where problems are is going to be needed. The best info we have here is by Rusty A.

I have an Obd thingy it's a cheap one I think from harbor freight and I have a Wi-Fi one I got on Amazon. But when I plug them in it say it can not communicate
