Swapped 4spd SPur with 3 Spd Synch HD in 52 F1
The last 2 evenings i swapped the 4spd crash box in my 52 F1 with a 3 spd synchro'd Heavy Duty transmission. Both of them are very large and deep and therefore i had to jack the rear of the 215 way up to get the tranny to clear the cross member and come straight out of the clutch/flywheel. Just a note for anyone trying to do it, make sure you check your flywheel and clutch alignment with an old shaft or one of the plastic alignment tools before attempting to reinstall. I did't and apparently when i removed the 4spd i must've lifted a little too hard at one point and got it out of alignment. I didn't realize it until the tranny wouldn't slip into the flywheel bushing.....so back out it came!! My back is not very happy right now but i'm betting my truck is going to be much more fun to drive with that 3 spd in there. **Side note: is there much interest in the 4spds? or am i better just putting it in a corner somewhere? It does have the hogs head on it which i'm told can be used in a swap to a T-5?? I don't know but i can't wait to get this back on the road to see how it works now.

There are periodically people who need the band-type e-brake parts off the 4-sp's, if yours has it, or other little bits, but little to no demand for internals. The hogsheads are still salable but there are so many aftermarket adapters that demand seems to have slowed. I've got one I saved.

I'll help if i can. That was the first time i ever did it and the shop manual for this process is not helpful in that regard. Having said that it technically was not wrong but it made the process seem way easier than it was for my 50+ yr old body. I've read where some people say they didn't have to raise the back of the engine up but there is absolutely no way you could remove that 4spd from the engine through the hole without raising the 215 6cyl engine as high as it would go (without bending anything of course).
Having now done it once i think i could do it again pretty quickly as long as the clutch stays centered with the flywheel. The 3 spd light duty is much smaller/lighter so it might be easier to do as well.

Suggest that you take a picture of it and put it on the "For sale and wanted" thread here on this forum: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...and-parts.html
That is how I sold mine.
