Lower oil pan gasket 6.7-silicone or gasket?

Ford repair procedures says on earlier model trucks with gasket to discard old gasket and install new gasket. I assume this applies to metal or plastic pans or going from plastic to metal.

Sucking air on the suction side of the pump is bad. Entrained air in the oil is a bad lubricant. The main bearings and connecting rod bearings are relying on a solid film of oil to prevent contact with the crank. If air is making up 20% of your oil film, that’s 20% less protection.
It’s kind of like using a condom with a hole in it, it could work. Or you could take the time to get up and grab another.
