Lower oil pan gasket 6.7-silicone or gasket?

When using the steel lower oil pan on a 6.7 instead of the plastic one why cant a gasket be used instead of silicone like Ford recommends?

Thanks

Ford repair procedures says on earlier model trucks with gasket to discard old gasket and install new gasket. I assume this applies to metal or plastic pans or going from plastic to metal.

I used silicone about 6 months ago. No issues since.
