I have recently replaced my oil pan and gasket because of the rusting pan and protruding gasket feature on many fords. When I finished installing everything I filled up the engine with oil and there were no leaks, (i couldn't start it due to a broken engine mount). So it sat the night till i replaced the mount and bolted the engine back down. After starting it up it began to drip out of 3 spots on the drivers side (the side that was drippy before) One friend said that i was not supposed to use gasket sealer on the whole pan gasket (which another friend told me i should do) Problem, should i go and buy another gasket or try to get some of the sealer of the gasket and clean the mating surface better..
go buy some non-hardening sealant or gasket dressing. I recently replaced mine and the instructions specifically said to coat it with gasket sealant. I did and no leaks yet.
had a leaky valve cover gasket(rubber kind) and I pulled it off and put sealant on it and it cured the problem.
I would like to know if you used a rubber one piece gasket or a 4 piece cork gasket?
Sealer, especially a high quality one can work provided it is used correctly. The last one I did I let it sit overnight before I started it up and definately made sure that it was not over torqued. By the way, the only gasket that I ever used was the one piece from Ford. I had way too many complaints with the multiple piece.
