Looking for installation tips on a 2016. I am looking at installing the superbright led 30" slimline straight led bar on the top of the grill between the [ ]. Looking at the superbright led over the rough country because it is less bright, but if my calculations are correct, still about 3X as bright as a pair of good halogen and only $100, more than bright enough for my needs. My questions include did anyone install a curve bar and if you did does it look plumb if it is aimed in a slightly downward direction? Do you need to cut the "black webbing" out of the grill in order to set the bar in deep enough (I assume yes)? Can you wire it directly to the uplifter switch without the relay, I read both yes and no and most important, how did you bolt it in? Did you bolt it right on the grill or add structures to bolt it to? Does not look like the grill is deep enough. Installation pictures appreciated.
Looking at Superbright, they don't seem to have anything for vehicle specific grill mounts for the superduty. That is why everyone uses Rough Country.
The lights are not on road legal, so why would you not want the most light you can get out of that size bar?
I have dual Rough Country and love them. The brackets are great and make it easy to install. You would have to remove any of the black grill to fit the bar. As for a curved fitting, that all depends on the dementions of the bar. The Rigid is a snug fit side to side.
You might want to look at taking one of the prebuilt brackets for a 20" bar in the bumper between the tow hooks.
And you can wire directly into the upfitter as they have the relay built in.
Here's the 22" light I installed on my truck, really not worth the money, time and effort....not very bright on the road. I just used a length of 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 1/8" angle iron. Sanded, primed and painted it with Rustoleum, looks ok but basically a waste of time.
Keep in mind that if you put the lower light bar in, your release tabs for the grill will be hidden. You will have to use a pick type tool bent to reach in and down to release. I use an old windshield gasket install tool and it makes it easier to release tabs for grill removal. I don't use mine much, they are wicked bright unless I am out on a lonely stretch of highway.
