Bueller???? Anyone in Iowa?
Not much action going on here in the Iowa chapter that I see, but I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I was in Chicago for the last 16 years and am back in West Des Moines. I have a '53 F100 ('55 grill), and wanted to see if there are any other F100 owners or old truck collectors out here by me. I am also looking for a reputable mechanic out here who likes to work on old trucks (specifically one like mine). I have a few things I'd like to do with her and they are above my skill level. Anyways, any suggestions out here or in my area (Ames, Norwalk, Ankeny, Grimes, etc) would be appreciated. Thanks and Cheers!

You'll want to find an independent shop willing and able to work on older trucks. Bribe them with, oh, I dunno... Hefe Weissen! Seriously though the folks who are decent aren't getting any younger. When they hang up their tools and retire there won't really be anybody to replace them.
Modern trucks need a stable of expensive equipment and the techs need training and continuing education, there just won't be anyone left who can be bothered to work on the older stuff in my opinion. Maybe some will specialize and carve out a niche. Better buy some Motors and Chiltons manuals and get to studying!
