I decided I needed an 1975 F600 bucket truck an acquaintance had. It is beat up, rusted, rode hard and put away wet! However the bucket lift would be so useful and works!
It has a trashed 330 2V HD engine in it. With one broken valve seat (#7), a broken piston (#6) and a damaged cylinder wall (#6). We think a used engine transplant is the best bet.
This vehicle will never be driven very far and will mostly be used on my 14 acres for painting, roof work and tree cutting. Don't want to put a lot of money in it if I can help it.
Here's the question. What engines can I put in this beast and have them fit up to the flywheel and bell housing? It would be nice if the timing cover also fit so I don't have to make engine mounts.
The 330 is an FT engine, the 352/390 are FE. The bell patterns and engine dimensions are the same. But, the FT engines usually had a different mounting system consisting of ears on the bell housing and a single mount up front off the front cover. All but the 330MD had a larger crank nose as well.
You can convert to an FE engine, but there are a bunch of little things to fiddle with, starting with the above. Your accessory drives are another area of fiddling for example.
IMO look for another 330. Billions served. A lot of these trucks lived low-mile close to home lives. You may find a rust bucket that has a runnable engine. IMO you should go through the motor first.
As for the rest of the truck, if it has been run hard, your brake drums might be a question mark. New drums are not available. All other brake parts are available through NAPA if you can find someone who knows what a medium truck is to help you.
You can post the VIN and the warranty plate (on the driver door) and get a decode to see if you have a MD or HD motor, what trans etc.
I swapped my 330 for a 391/390 (391 lower 390 upper)... 330s are dogs and burn as much fuel as the larger motor. The 390 heads were adapted.. oil pump modified... used my 330 exhaust with center port welded up... this top end allowed me to use the edelbrock performer 390 aluminum intake.. which removed a bunch of weight
Cheap way find another FT motor... they arent worth much anymore
