Torque Converter?!?
Hey guys! I have a few questions about a torque converter I have laying around. I was thinking about putting it in my truck, but I didn't know how it would effect my performance. It has a higher stall than my factory torque converter. Here is all the information about my truck and what I plan on doing with the motor.
- 1989 Ford F-150 XLT Lariat Longbed Pick-Up; 3" Inch Body Lift, Rolling on 33's
-4-Wheel Drive; 3.07 Differential Gearing Ratios (I plan on switching to 4.10, or 4.56 differential gearing ratios later on down the road.)
- 3-Speed Automatic C6 Transmission; Transgo Performance Shift Kit, Imperial/Hayden Transmission Oil Cooler
- Fuel-Injected 5.8 Liter 351 Windsor; Sealed Power Flat-Top Pistons (With 4 Valve Reliefs), Quench Distance (0.040"), Shorty Headers, Comp Cam #35-255-5, MSD Ignition And Ported Heads
The torque convertor I have is Dacco "Performance Plus" 2,300-2,800 Stall torque convertor. My questions are, with my setup, how will this torque convertor effect my performance? Will it effect my performance in a good way in the long run whenever I switch to bigger differential gearing ratios?

I'd honestly probably avoid a 2,800 RPM stall converter in a C6 truck. The C6 is a non-lockup transmission. The high-stall would probably be fine in a relatively small and lightweight car. But in my opinion, you'll have way too much slip just driving normally at highway speeds with 33" tires in a lifted truck. You'll be building a lot of heat and wasting a ton of fuel.
