Just curious as to what kind of torque converter you are running and what it's intended application is. I've got a 460 in my shortbed 4x4 and my C6 trans is dying. With the rebuild I'm going to put in a new TC and just trying to get some input on what people think is the best TC to run? I know this is a bit of an open ended question as different engines, trucks, cams, truck weight, intended use, gearing, tires, etc, all impact torque converter selection.
Do you feel one brand better than others?
Any specifics as to how a TC is built? Like welded or brazed, bearings, etc?
I currently use a 3500 Dominater and i cant fault it. I run a fairly tough 351 Clevland, C4, Full spool 9" with 4.3:1 gears. Built for the street but does well on the occasional long trip. Have used some other brands but not as good in my opinion
TCI is junk. I've had 4 converters from their and wasn't impressed by any one of them. Poor craftsmen ship, they couldnt get the stall speed right, and they just didnt feel good driving around.
Precision Industries makes a good converter. I've had two of theirs. Their triple disc lock up converters are SICK. They make a nice product.
Midwest Converters. I have on in my TH350 in my carmaro. Nice converter.
Yank, Neal Chance, Art Carr all make nice converters too.
The nicer converters will usually have a billet front cover and anti balloning plates.
