I have been looking at this '41 ton and a half for 30 years or so. Stopped by today while on the mainland and visited with the owner. It's pretty far gone up close, but I could still end up with it. He has a lot of cars on his place and is a very creative guy. The 54 buick has a lot of rivets and great markings. I think he built it in the late '80s. Because of the car he was invited to the last reunion of the Flying Tigers. It was a great visit. The '36 ...? Well that's in a totally different place, many miles from there. Ain't sayin' where.
What's the car on the back of the truck? '39 Plymouth?
I think that's what he said. The '41 was in a movie in the early 80s staring Hoyt Axton and Karen Black. Filmed on Whidbey Island. The truck had explosive bolts holding the bed on. The bed was loaded with chickens, eggs, hay bales, produce etc. The scene has the truck barreling down a hill into a 'Tee' in the road at the bottom. drifting around the corner, bolts explode and dumps it load into a merc convertible parked alongside the street. Can't remember the name of the movie..... He is quite fond of his collection and said maybe I could talk him out of the truck, but let's face it. It looks good in his yard and I made points with my wife when I told her I didn't think I needed THAT one. He said to make a dash plate with my name on it and mail it to him and when the family was divvying up his s#!t, I could have it.
