Every day I drive past this farmhouse with a 70s something truck parked in front. It has not moved in more than a year. I wonder if the owner is interested in selling (for disk brakes and other parts), but never see anyone and didn't bother to stop in. Well, on Friday I see that the house and out buildings are being crushed. I look closer and noticed that 'my' parts truck is smashed under the rubble. But wait that's not what made me sick... Today I drive by and show my wife my missed opportunity. She says that white truck looked to be in good shape. I said what white truck? The truck was red!
Well the truck she spotted was a white 66 under one of the crushed barns. I stopped and saw that it was not in bad shape before the demolition, but is worthless now.
Moral of the story... Followup on any and all leads. Don't be shy to knock on a door. One persons treasure may be someone else's junk.
I once saw a 65 short bed in good condition grill and all sitting along side the road. This was just after I wrecked my 65 so I needed a complete front end clip.
I stopped knocked on doors called proporty management people laminated a couple of notes to the damn thing making a offer and even had a friend in the fire department trace the license plate.
I never heard a word from nobody spent a week looking for the owner.
Yup happened to me too. Was watching a 62 uni for parts on a piece of property that was soon to become new freeway. It had several cars and trucks on it. I knew the owner of the property but not the guy leasing it. The owner said he would call the minute the lease was cancelled and the vehicles became his to dispose of. Well he lost my # and ended up selling to another guy for $50 along with a 72 LTD cop car 429/C6 9"locker. Alot of the other cars just got crushed but I know I'll see that uni cruising around some day. Snooze you loose. Rich.
