Junkyard finds
This junkyard is about an hour and a half from home and I only get up that way when we are working up there so I may go ahead and get the step side bed if the price is right even though I don't need it and really don't even like step side shortys all that much. Any I dea what it is worth? I would just assume it needs new wood. Anybody looking for one? I'm not really trying to sell anything here, just help people find things they need, so if I can help we can talk on the side through e-mail.
Im in WA and have been looking for stepside rear bumper and brackets- the orig. kind. I know stepside beds can be pricey in some areas of the country. Like $350+.
I never did find any real good yards when I was there though. Macs near Port Townsend has as many old pickups as I found anywhere and I did get some parts from him. Also you might give Bergstom's in P.T. a call at 360-385-5061. He specializes in antique auto parts and has a real nice store with reasonable prices. Although most of his stuff is older, he does a lot of consignment and may know where the good yards are too.
I am only familiar with the Olimpic Peninsula and Whidbey Island. Island recycling center gets a few old cars all the time. I was there in may and they had a real straight 72 F-100 styleside and a 51 chev p/u with a 283 engine, a 54 olds and about 20 other cars. They were crushing that day.
Ds7776 where you at in S. Dak.?, I haven't been to the big junkyard in Belle Fourche since it changed hands but they had about 75 ford pickups form 67-79. I knew the previous owners sons and they always treated me right. They started in the 50s and moved a couple times, the last time the state paid to get them off the main intersection, and moved most of their stuff a couple miles out. The boys hung on to the original yard which is obscure and hardly anyone gets taken in there. I bought a 64 Ford highway patrol car out of there once for $300. It had the P code 390 with solid lifters and the castiron headers.
