I know it has been discussed here and I have even asked about it. Is it really as complicated as some say? I've talked to a couple of rod shops and they say it's very important to have the ride height, rake, etc. before you start installing? The instructions from Heidts are pretty vague as far as making sure of all of that. I've talked to others and they say it's not a big project. I don't want a lot if any rake in my truck and I hate to pay someone up to $2500 to install it, but I do want it done right. What's yalls thoughts?
I installed mine in a weekend with no problems by there instructions. This was the first one I've ever done..
Did you take into consideration your ride height or rake? How did you install it? Crossmember parallel to the ground? Did the instructions from Heidts put your front wheel centered in the fender well or did you have to move it foward? Thanks
The measurement they give at 19 -3/4" from the center of the front spring perch centers the wheels. I leveled the frame side to side and set it at the approximate rake and welded the cross member in level. I just tack welded it in then rechecked several times before committing to a final weld.
If you follow the Heidt's instructions the front wheel will be centered. Ride height will depend on if you went with drop spindles or standard spindles and also on wheel and tire size you go with. The rake will depend on how you drop the rear to compensate for the amount you drop the front end.
