Ok guys I am leaning towards going with Volare frontend on my 53. I would like to here from those who have one on their truck. The only issue I think I will have is finding one.
I have one and I know many others that have them as well. The reason I have it is because it came mounted on the 56 chassis I bought a few years back. If I had a stock chassis today I would not even consider a Volare IFS...too many other options for better performing IFSs out there today. Volare and Cordoba IFSs gained popularity because they were the only game in town years ago...now you have many choices, most all are better designed and parts more readily available. John Niolon removed the Volare from his truck and installed a Mustang II.
I have one in my 55. Very happy with it and no issues buying any part I have needed so far. There were hundreds if not thousands of these installed in hot rod over the years so I don't think parts are going away anytime soon
I'm in the same camp with Charlie.. have two trucks with them.. one came that way (have to redo) and one I did (Niolons install doc has my pics)
I did it thinking it was cheap.. but the steering box causes extra work, and IF you want a nice ride, then you really need to put the drop spindles on to be able to crank the torsion bars back where they belong
my other in progress truck has a Mustang II..
Jag front end looks next best..
and the crown vic appears easy, but is really too wide. forces some funky front wheels.

I have put "Volare" suspensions under two Bonus Built trucks. The first suspension was from an 87 Chrysler 5th Ave, the second from an 83 Chrysler 5th Ave. I haven't finished the second truck yet but the first one turned out great. It had a nice smooth ride, handled well, great brakes and steering, and the stance was to my liking. I am looking for the same result from the second truck. The steering box is not a huge issue if you offset the engine a couple of inches to the passenger side. I like not having to deal with finding the perfect coil springs too. Look for a Chrysler 5th Avenue from 1983-1989.
I had one 26 years ago in my other '56. It was the only option in town back then that I knew of. Compared to the straight axle; it was nice. However the Steering box / clearance issues are of concern. I cranked my bars down for the low stance but that made the front end soft and spongie.

Larry,
if you dead set on getting I know where one is already to go but I would agree with the other post. I just finish up putting a mustang II on my 56.
The Volare seems to becoming outdated. I looked into this when I got my truck and for my area there just weren't any around. I went the Jag front end. I was able to get an entire 86 Jag for $500. That got me front and rear suspension and the brake system. If you can get Jag or Crown Vic easy and cheap around you I say these are the best options.

I have one in my truck. Buddy of mine had over 100,000 on his 55 with chy. front end when he sold his truck about 3 months ago. He is building a 53 and going back with a chy. front. Simply because something is older doesn't mean it's bad, nor do I think it is the best option out there. I do think it is a easy and well proven install and works very well. But then I am old so old stuff is what I know best.
Larry
I have a Volare clip with dropped spindles (550$ a set) under my 55 that was there when I got the truck.(the IFS, not the spindles) I have no real complaints with it, but If I were to build one now, I would go MII...
