Smile Blank Gauge

Hi guys i just got my Ford Dealer to program 2015 F 250 to show the DEF gauge .
( I found the instructions here on this site Great site by the way)

It shows different % levels on the gauge ? when I check it. My dealer did fill it up at the time of the service. Does the computer need time to adjust to this change. it shows 65% now and I know it is full, When I first pick up the truck it showed 85%.

DEF gauge? Are you sure that isn't the DPF gauge? Two different things. The DEF gauge is always there in the information display, but only shows half full, quarter full, and empty AFAIK. The DPF gauge that the dealer turns on shows %, climbs till it hits 100% and then you get a regen.

I don't know about the factory gauge but the TorquePro gauge shows DEF level in gallons. I thought it was pretty accurate but the last time I filled up I had 2.0 and added 2.5. Then it read 3.1. TorquePro also displays soot level (DPF) 0%-100%. If the ECU transmits this info I would assume you could get it activated on the blank screen.

You had 2.0 added 2.5 - shouldn't that be 4.5 and not 3.1? Or is this common core math?

That's too simple for common core. Yes it should be 4.5 but for some reason it only went to 3.1. Maybe it really only had .6 when I added 2.5, and the 2.0 was a lie. Either way, I know it had at least 2.5 in it after I added the new 2.5 jug. The rest may be a mystery for the ages.

The DEF level on my EDGE CTS is all over the place too. I guess the way the stuff crystallizes may have some effect on the accuracy of the sensors.

I usually just go by the message that pops up on the dash that tells you when it is close to empty - but that isn't super accurate either. I loaned my truck to some friends because their car was in the shop. He told me the DEF message came up a couple times but when I picked it up the message wasn't coming up. I put some DEF fluid in anyway.

The % soot level is provided by the PCM and can be read by any OBD scan device. However it does not directly correlate to the dashboard indicator on my truck. It is loosely correlated. The DEF tank only has sensors for half full, quarter full and empty, not a linear sensor like a fuel gauge. Anything finer information is interpolated (or guessed) based on other operating time etc.

There is not a symmetrical gauge system on the DEF tank. Using the CTS or TorquePro to get tank level is not worth the effort. There only 2 or 3 level sensors in the tank.
