Headlights on but switch is off!!

I just happened to look out the window of the house and see that the headlights on my truck were on. However, they were turned off from inside. When I stepped on to the porch, I immediately smelled something electric smoking. I tried turning off the lights by switching the lights from on to off, but that didn't effect the lights at all. There was a humming close to the turbo and the smoke seemed to be in the cabin more so than under the hood.
I've had this truck for most of its life and it's never had an electrical issue. Has anyone had this happen before? Or does anyone have a clue as to what it could be? Thank you all in advance!!

Unhook the batteries and start looking for burnt and or melted wires to
point you in the right direction to start with.

You can pull Fuse F2.30 15A F2.46 10A F2.47 10A
Also pull F2.17 15A That one powers the fog lamps.

Pulling the 4 fuses will take the power from the lights and let you hookup
the batteries. But be sure to check once you do just in case something is
getting power from somewhere else.

I have the diagrams here and will post some for you to start looking over.
Lets see what everyone else thinks. But I have a feeling that the Multifunction switch
may of bit the big one. BTW that switch is your turn signal, high/low and wipers.

You can remove the column covers and sniff and look for heat damage there.

Once again I would like to hear what the others think on this one.

You may also consider if you have DRL or delayed lighting that the module has not shorted so that it can't turn off. Personaly I think Yahiko is on the right track. Headlights take a lot of juice to work. DRL and light modules are more of a remote control switch. Turning on and off main power.

Was thinking about this over night and I recall that someone
in the last few months (maybe 6) had this issue and it was that switch.

The multi-function switch is the more common failure point. Since it actually moves and physically does something it gets more wear and tear than most of the other components involved in the light system. Or at least that is what I have found over the years.

I've hooked the batteries back up and as soon as it gets power, its like I've turned the key in the ignition and the fuel pump kicks on (among everything else.) I tried to get it to run today and while it will turn over really strong, it won't fire up like it's not getting fuel.
Would the multifunction switch make it think its not getting fuel?

**Update**

We have found what was causing the issue! The seal around the windshield was letting water get in the truck and it was running down the side pillar and down to the fuse box. After speaking with someone at a glass company, this seems to be a common problem with this body style truck.
I just happened to catch what was happening in time. Had I not caught it, the wiring coming out of the fuse box would have been damaged.
If anyone has any thing similar happening or has any questions, I'll be glad to help I am on the way now to see about getting the circuit board for the fuse box repaired.
