If you could build the ultimate Super Duty using parts and cues from ONLY Current model BIG 3 HD trucks, what would it be? (Not the 2017 SD or 2016 RAM)
Mine would be
2015 F450 Body
Ford Mirrors
Ford Manstep
Ford Seats
Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
GM High Strength Frame
GM High Strength Body Panels
GM NAV
GM Bed AC Outlet
GM Bumper Step
RAM Dash/Door Panels
RAM LED Headlights/Taillights
RAM Ramboxes
RAM Push Button Start
RAM OEM Air Bags
That would be the perfect truck...all using current Truck technology. I have a feeling the only variable would be the Cummons, Duramax, or Powerstroke for some people.
Ford Body
Ford Mirrors
Ford Electronics/Gauges
GM High Strength Body Panels
GM High Strength Frame
GM Allison Trans
RAM Cummins Power plant
RAM Interior
RAM Ignition
RAM Stereo/Navi
RAM LED Lighting
2017 Fords I thought had push button start. Personally, not much of a fan of push button start.
Of the modern big 3 motors I like the 6.7....
THe other stuff is good in my book - but for durability I like the 9th injector for regens and the grid heater that RAM uses instead of glow plugs (GP). Not that GPs bug me and you can certainly drive away faster with GPs...
Also, I like the option for auto 4WD like GM has... I hate having to switch in and out of 4WD all winter long because the road goes from snow covered to dry and when you want to make a hard right hand turn.
Wouldn't it be nice if you could go to a site and actually build it the way you want...
I've had my 11, 6.7 for 5yrs, and have a new 16 on the way. I wouldn't change a Gosh Darn thing.
No matter what it is, there is always room for improvement.
The newer ones with the 360 degree cameras and the even more important ability to put on easily on the back of a trailer are certainly nice additions.
Obviously, I like more of what the Ford was about the the other brands out there. Otherwise I would own one of them. (and I have, so it isn't like I don't have first hand ownership experience) I always end up back at Ford for trucks.
I own a Chevy with the Allison and my '13 F350. Not enough difference in the transmissions to argue about really. I do like the early Allisons that have the spin on filter fro easy replacement though.
I would LOVE the cameras on the new trucks! The side view, especially on the blind side, while backing a 5er would be fantastic. If they can be used or viewed with the truck in forward motion, that would be an added safety feature in my book. That way you can check things from a seated position without stopping even though I know there is NOTHING safer than getting out and looking for yourself. My wife has already warned me NOT to think about another truck
The more tech that gets added the more things there are to go wrong. Out of warranty cost for many components in new vehicles is prohibitive. Maybe that's the plan, make it too expensive to own an out of warranty vehicle so you have to trade all the time.
I do like the backup camera on my wife's '15 Focus a lot better than my '11 F350 though. In my truck if I start the truck and then back up by the time SYNC has started up and turned on the camera I'm finished backing up, pretty much useless for just driving the truck, works great for hooking up bumper pulls but I'd like one in the cargo light to show the box for hooking the fifth.
The push button start thing is kind of clouded. Our key start is basically push button, all you have to do is flick the key forward to make contact, then let go. It's similar to the amount of effort when pushing the auto down window button.
I guess the real issue is whether or not you have to put the key in the column, that would be nice to eliminate.
