My '42 1.5 ton didn't have the gas tank when I got it. I want to relocate a junkyard tank but don't have any ideas as to where and what tank to use. Any suggestions?
I thought about that, too. My idea was to locate the gas tank (maybe original fits) behind the cab. Over the driveshaft, between the left and right frame side.
I have a 1940 one ton.. relo the gas tank to rear behind axle.... not too hard. I bought a plastic boat tank from overtons..about 16 gals. fabbed up steel sheet (home depot) box for skid plate. extra precaution is all. just make exact measurements and find a close one. I used a rubber radiator hose for filler neck and drilled small hole in left rear bed... didn't want to go thru wooden bed.. I actually want to use the bed, not just for decoration.
for mounting I used zinc coated hanger strips and rubber door threshold molding between strips and tank. works great.
only one caveat - the gas does slosh around a lot - no baffles... but for a weekend only truck, no prob.
