What are your symptoms? Have you dropped the pan and checked for foreign matter? Like clutch material, band material, or bearing failure? B.

Yep, you are in need of a rebuild. If you put $10K into it you really need to get it fixed. It's worth far more to you running than to someone else broken down.

I am guessing you are not doing the work yourself ? if it were me that Transmission would be all over the garage fl;oor in pieces by now - Just saying - However The 99 4R100 is a simpler transmission than the newer ones - beefy tho.

As for the symptoms - it sounds like one of a few things
1. seals inside the transmission let go - where there is an internal leak normally these come on slow and tend to be worse when cold and get better when warm - mainly the first symptoms are crazy shift characteristics, things like taking a long time to make a shift.

2. the pump or pressure regulator is failing, pumps tend to go slowly and will make you think the transmission is just not right, you will swear it is in gear but the motor seems to be just a bit faster, shifts can get funky as well. The regulator will stick or a spring fatigue inside and those seem to go faster. - There are some pressure ports on the side of the transmission where some test gear can be hooked up and you can read the pressure.

3. There may be something stuck in the Valve body - I doubt a few weeks in the paint shop would do it but often when a truck sits over some time things gel up.

Do a search online for Ford 4R100 tests or diagnostics and you should find some shade tree diag methods that do not require special tools.

Here in the states I can get that rebuild kit for around 300.00 plus a pump, torque converter and valve body kit for an estimated total of 800.00 or so in parts, a local shop will rebuild it for around 2200.00 so all in all not a bad deal - I am guessing this whole cluster in the island will run you about 4500, and you will have a total of 14,500.00 in the truck - so survivable

Do a youtube search on 4R100s. Look for a video CD on how to rebuild one. The CD will at least show you where the check ***** go in the valve body. After viewing the rebuild CD then you can decide if its something you want to tackle. Note there is some special tools needed and they should be shown in the video. Your other option if you cant find a reputable trans shop in Aruba (Jealous as hell by the way) is to order and ship a reman unit to your door step if that's feasible? The Reman will have a warranty. Do not attempt to reuse the converter. Flush out the trans cooler and lines too.
Any auto junk yards there? You could maybe find a good used unit? Install that so you can drive the truck and have the original to disect and rebuild at your leasure. Its a better way to learn when your not under the gun to get it running.
Side note always used the correct specified fluid. Install the converter correctly and change the fluid and filter in the new trans after a few thousand miles. Then at or before the recommended interval stated in the owners manual(I do mine at 25-30K in all my vehicles...cheap insurance).

Your close to Venezuela so maybe try and find a shop there? If you removed the valve body then yes, those check ***** need to go back into the right place for sure. If the pan had debris inside of it you are most likely looking at a rebuild. Get ahold of Silverfox at clickclickracing.com and I'm sure he can put together a kit for you. Here's his site. Home

I have bought stuff from him before and you really can't beat his pricing.

By the way, nice rig you have there. Keep her and get the trans fixed and enjoy. B.

I believe that's the neutral safety switch. That prevents the engine from starting unless it's in neutral or park.

Not really hard, just heavy. If you are going to do it on your back it is best to drop the transfer case from the transmission before you remove the trans. B.
