Got a CEL.....

Right around Christmas. Hubby used the code reader and found this:

U059E - Invalid Data Received from NOx Sensor A

And then cleared it. CEL went away and hasn't been back since, so my question is, am I safe? Was it a fluky reading on a cold day of making short errand runs? Or did I have an actual problem even though the CEL has not come back? Truck is running fine, no issues (knock on wood), and I'm not really worried - just curious more than anything.

Y'all's input is appreciated.

It is probably just a communications error...if you ask me.

Code is probably still there in the history.

My take on it is to ignore it unless it comes back.

I'd ignore it too except on one condition:

If your mpg has gone down a bit, take it in. Could be running too rich.

If your mpg has gone up, show me how you did that.....

Well, I've been watching my mpg and I don't see anything alarming, it may be down a little but since I didn't pay that close of attention to it previously, I can't say for sure. I think I will just wait until my next oil change, and let them check it out then. Given that I only paid 2.14 a gallon to fill up last night, I can afford a slight drop for a little longer!

any "u" codes are a loss of communication, like a loose or corroded connector.

So, do you think it is a permanent loss or was it just temporary?

If vloney is right (I have no reason to doubt a Ford Tech citing Ford codes), the problem will exist until the connector is reattached (if loose) or replaced.

If the code didn't reappear it was probably just a transient error. I've seen them popup from time to time over the years. If it comes back you've probably got a loose connection or a failing sensor.
