I have been resding lots of posts on the 05E16 code and would like to hear some more updated reports before I take my truck in to get it done. The only reason for taking it in is that it isn't getting the fuel milage that it should. I THINK that I currently have 05E15.
I've had this code since May of this year. I haven't noticed any changes either good or bad. It was pretty neutral from a performance and mpg perspective for me. I don't think it would hurt to get it.
05E15 is going to get you the most recent flash (which I think is very important, and everybody should get)... it will also get you an update EP sensor.

I had the 05E16 done 5,000 mi ago. I think it seems a little quicker since. A little better mileage, too. Gets about 18-18.5 almost all the time, except when towing.
I just had some driveshaft work done on the '05 PSD and while they had it in the shop there was an upgrade they installed. It makes the injectors cycle for approx. 15 seconds after key is off. Weird but seems OK.
Had it done this week.Engine smoother on start up. Virtually no smoke. Will be on a 2000 k trip in a few weeks. Was averaging 16-17 mph(highway). will report any big change to that after I get back.
Just got 05E16 done.
I mentioned the poor milage and got a very unexpected answer. "What do you expect it to get?" I was also informed that hand calculated milage wasn't accurate. The computer they use is more accurate. It took everything i had not to ask if their computer was as accurate as the feul milage display lie-o-meter.
Now thats funny, hand mileage is not accurate.Tell them next time you will use a calculater?

If my truck was running right and all you would acomplish is 1-2 miles to the gallon better I would not let Ford touch it. Seem foolish to mess with a good thing. There will always be a latest and greatest reflash it seems. Unless the engineers just give up on the 6.0L when the new ones hits the road.
05E16 is also supposed to fix the turbo lag too. I was tod to drive it like new for a little bit so the computer can relearn my driving habits. Does anyone know how long this takes?
