PCV Valve in a V10? Why is it connected to coolant?
So I'm inspecting my PCV system and notice that the PCV Valve doesn't look like what I was expecting.
Okay. Driver's Side (Left) valve cover has a pipe coming out of it going to the intake plenum. Simple enough.
Passenger's Side (Right) valve cover has the PCV valve in it with a tube leading to the throttle body. That's also easy enough to understand. I just wasn't expecting three tubes going to the PCV valve.
I don't understand is why there's a coolant line going to it.
The Intake manifold has a 5/8 or 3/4 heater hose coming off of it that goes to a vacuum actuated valve on the HVAC box near the firewall. Under this is a small 1/4 inch nipple with a smaller hose going to the PCV, then the line goes from the PCV valve to another inlet on the throttle body.
I'm assuming the heads pass coolant to the intake manifold to prevent ice from forming in the intake tract and to increase fuel economy by warming the intake charge.... And that the Throttle Body has a mechanical idle control bypass that's fed coolant.
I just don't understand what the PCV has to do with any of that.
