I have a 98 F150 4.2 L, I have the rough idle when I stop at a light. I have been through and cleaned the egr ports, replaced the dpfe and cleaned the throttle body. I read somewhere about PCV lines could have cracked and could cause some rough idle. I looked at the PCV tonight, I can get my hand on it but can't seem to see where the lines go to replace them. Has anyone replaced theirs? Any tips on how to replace it and the lines and where they go???? THANKS!
Have you considered replacing the PCV Valve? Get one from Ford and try that especially if after removing the present one on your 98 F150 it appears dirty and the valve inside doesn't rattle or move. Sometimes, cleaning the PCV valve with carb cleaner might help. Rough idle can be as a result of other malfunctioning parts and/or sensors. A qualified mechanic can easily diagnose your vehicle, i.e., Ford dealer. It is worth a try because I have a feeling that your mpg's are also suffering.
I had the same problem with my 02 4.2L and i replaced the pcv valve and now it idles like its new. the pcv valve on mine is really strange looking, it was mounted to the intake spacer, and had two small coolant lines going to it, its not a regular one that goes into the valve cover. the hose from the pcv valve goes to an elbow that is in the valve cover, the elbow is easily mistaken for the pcv, but if you take it out you will see that it is nothing more than a fitting, follow that from that elbow to where it ends and that is the pcv valve attached to the intake spacer with two small screws, at least thats how mine was, i dont know if they changed at all from 98 to 02, hope this helps. oh yeah, I had to get it from an auto supply warehouse because autozone and advance didnt even carry it, it cost me about $20, or $30 from the ford dealer.

Ford made a few different PCV's for these year models. The 2 most common are a Heated PCV which has the coolant lines going to them and a Un heated which would be a more common PCV. A common fault with the Heated PCV is where the 3 come together on the throttle elbow. That threaded adapter tends to "rust out" and cause engine trouble or even mechanical failure due to the metal particals getting sucked into the combustion chamber. I asked ford about this and they recomended replacing every 40k miles or every 2nd coolant flush.
I want to replace it. I can't get to it , I can get my hand on it but can't see enough of it to figure out where the lines go so I can put a new one on. Has anyone replaced one? Any suggestions on where the lines go or a way to see? A diagram or pic?
on my 99 the pcv hose had holes in the 90 degree bends. Had to remove the plenum to replace. Ford has the hose and valve as one unit when you purchase.
Some fords will sell you all the hoses attached to the pvc which is about 45 bucks my cost, and some will just sell you the pvc whis is either 11 bucks my cost or like 26 bucks for the heated one my cost.
