For the last 5 months or so,
I have had a high pitch squeal / screech.
It's only after the first start up of the day for about two minutes of driving then all is good.
So i have been thinking that is sounded like the turbo wheel is scraping, or the shaft is about to seize up because of my loss of boost. 25 down to 17 psi. That's what i thought anyway?
I have looked everywhere over and over and have also checked the wheel twice for play. it's all good and snug.. (spins free)
So today i finally had a chance to dig in to it with the leak detector cap that Trey made for me. i soaped the living bajesus out of everything and saw nothing but i still thought i could hear a slight air leak somewhere.
about an hour in to it i found two things,
On the red line where it splits from one to two lines, the rubber had rotted away and was leaking..
Then also, on the boost line where it connected to the T line was cracked and leaking.
Fixed, started and test drove.. No more screaming !
My boost is back to 23 but i can see the up's are leaking now..
I have a set of dormans ready to go on but i want to install a surge wheel while the turbo is off..
Does anyone know what the Red and green tubes are called? I need to replace them as the rubber is badly damaged. The green goes into the pipe from the filter and the red goes to the actuator on the turbo. I can find all the parts but that tube coming from the solenoid.
My tubes were good so i just replaced the rubber 90's.
Bought them at the local auto parts.
The vacuum line form the boost gauge had a very small hole from rubbing.
I believe when it got warm, the tube softened up and closed the hole.
i just cut the tube at the hole and put a plastic line splicer in it
I was at Ford about a couple of months ago to replace those red and green lines and as far as they told me they do NOT make them anymore so don't break them or throw them away!!!
