My last OC was with Delo LE... Ready to do one with Rotella... Any reason I should not throw in the left over quart of Delo to use it up with the Rotella OC?
Both 15w40 Dino..
Also... It has been a year and 3000 Miles since my last OC.. seems like a waste of oil and a filter.. tell me it needs to be done based on time..

I run 15w-40 to 5000 miles, and my Blackstone reports consistently say I could run it out to 6000. I always change it out at 5k though. Time has never shown to be a factor for me since I don't rack up many miles, often taking over a year and a half to get to 5k miles. I would think that my reports would show some signs of breakdown or oxidation if it were an issue.

Thanks for your thoughts in advance..
Delo LE is a pretty good oil. You could leave it in there if you wanted. Rule of thumb says change it, but more than likely the oil is still fine. However, after a year, what is another $60 for an oil change, right?
There is no problem mixing oils if you wanted to combine Rotella and Delo. But remember, more is not always better, dont just throw it in there just because. Only if you need to add more to get it up to the full mark.

Feel free to mix Delo LE with Rotella T.....I do it all the time. It won't hurt anything.

It needs to be done based on time.
Not really, but if it makes ya happy...
I go by the mileage, never the time. If I used anything other than Delo I'd be fine with mixing. Save the quart for between-change top up; on mine I can hear the valvetrain when it's low. Or go with a bigger Donaldson ELF7405 oil filter and use the full 4 gallons. My OC interval is 4-5k, whenever good weather coincides with motivation during that span.
Thanks for all the input...
I finished the OC and nary a drop spilled...new FL1995 and 15 qt Rotella.. I just put the extra Delo qt into the Rotella jug giving me a 2qt start for the next change..
I go off miles on my oil changes too, my one previous to this one was almost 3 years, since the truck only got about 1K miles a year for 2 years. I change it at 5K miles. It has 280K miles on it now and still runs as good as the day I got it 12 years ago.
I honestly don't know that I could go 3 years in between OC's... that is a long time for sure... I am still getting use to my new cars going 10K miles between changes..
