What carb should I get to replace one in the pictures for a 1950 F1 flathead 6????
I have a 1950 F1 with a flathead 6 with what I believe is the original carburetor. I was having problems with the carb, which was recently rebuilt and it totally clean. I recently put in a new gas tank, a new fuel line, and cleaned out the fuel pump. Anyway, I think the carb has an internal crack that I can't see. I had a guy who is knowledgeable with carbs check it out and he couldn't get it right. He also thought there might be a crack in it somewhere because he couldn't figure out what was causing the problem. It runs really lean and he has changed to the float level to make adjustments and can't get it right and now it is set so high that it will just flood over. He recommended I get a new carb.
So, my question for all of you with more knowledge than I have would be what are your recommendations for getting a new carb. I do not need to have an original carb. Rather I want to use my truck for a daily driver. I am not looking for my truck to have speed, I just want to enjoy driving it on a daily basis. I have a 3 speed on the floor and so I just like the farm style truck (1st gear is a major granny gear). I want a carb that will fit and I won't have to make any modifications. Any suggestions? Also, what can I expect to pay and where should I get a new carb? Any links would be appreciated.
Any suggestions of what carb I should get to replace this would be greatly appreciated. If you could give me specifics and what website I can find one to buy.
Let me know. Thanks so much for any help people can give.
Tell him you don't want the clearcoat. If you are going to be tinkering, you may get gas on it and you'll have a mess. He's probably still smarting after the spanking he got the other day on the 'barn.
The carb you have is not a stock truck carb. It has a straight side air horn, the truck carb has pointed ring going around the airhorn to hold the air cleaner clamp. Kind of looks like this. <==>

I have, but due to new work schedule, cold weather, and many other projects would not want to take on any more uses of my spare time. Amongst other things I have a 1BA engine to tear down and see if a crack can be pinned by a local fella.
I've also promised a rebuild on a (different) carb for a former customer of Ken's who wasn't impressed with the high price charged for a painted rebuild. The ol' clear-coater used to sell me parts until I refused to raise my fees to match his.
Boy, Ken did get a beating, it's about time I'd say....
Quite a contrast between the thread honoring Uncle Max and the one "honoring" Ken.
I bet KiWinUS is out drinking tonight to celebrate... he's been riding Ken for years. Once the dam was opened, I was surprised at the vitriol that came out...
