Driver window fell off track - cables not in tandem
Hello everyone!
I am in GA and we just got our first REAL freeze of the year (Currently 27 out). On the way out this morning my wife tried to roll the driver side window down and realized that the window was stuck.
She stopped at conv store for coffee and as I sat awaiting her return the window unstuck and fell all the way down.
I've taken the panel off and found that:
A - the plastic clip on the left track is now cracked and loose
B - the cables do not move in tandem - the left one goes up and down, but the right one stays at the bottom. As the left one goes up, I can see the cable unwinding out of the bottom of the motor, as it goes up the left side tightens up and stops half way.
C - there is still some lubricant on the track, but I will be adding more.
I am in between jobs, so taking it somewhere is out of the question.
Question - Ideas on what the issue may be, and how can I repair this?
I am mechanically inclined, can do most anything myself, but a tut or walk through would be appreciated as I don't want to have to do this again later.
For now I have placed two 2x2 boards in place to hold the window up and left the panel off (I plan to attack this the day after tomorrow when the temps are above 40 again).
I have found that spraying the window felt with silicone spray helps the slow roll up when cold a lot. It is -20 here today and my drivers window rolls up much faster since spraying the felt. Leaves residue on the edges to the glass, but what the heck.
So after replacing your reg, spray the felts also.

Check eBay for the regulator with and without the motor. I've actually found regulators with the motors for less than what auto parts store sell just the regulators for. I would've looked it up for you but you never told us what vehicle you have.
