Question Rear axle movement

With truck jacked up I can move the left tire and wheel in and out about 3/16"......is this normal? No other problems except there is a "click" when start to move forward?

It probably moves less than you think. The axle shaft pokes into the bevel gear unit and there is a snap ring on the inside. The axle can move in and out probably less than 1/8 inch on each side.. That is o.k., no problem. What your looking for is clearance up and down, wobble, bearing wear, oil leaks around seal.. If you dont have a leak or bearing noise, your o.k.

Noise when you start to move is the splines on the drive shaft slip joint... You can grease the splines with real thick grease to help that.

This question has come up before
I researched this some more and I keep coming up with
a maximum allowable axle end play, on a semi floating axle, at only.030
Got to correct a iirc post of mine

In any event ,use a dial indicator to
measure your end play

Maybe someone else can verify the .030
