Exgaust Gas Temp Sensor Location?

I got the Edge EAS Insight with Exgaust Gas Temp Sensor...i was reading their directions and they were saying to install the senor in the exhaust manifold...i dont know if that is the best place for it...

Where have you guys been putting your EGT Sensors?

There should also be a way with this system to setup a custom gauge to read EOT, ECT, and EGT all on one screen.

What do you guys think?

thanks!

Question #1 - Answer, driver's side exhaust manifold (rear) because I could reach it with the drill and most are put there.

#2 - Can't answer - I have SGII.

97% of people put it in the drivers side exhaust manifold, very easy to drill and tap in that location. Right at the end as it turns up to the up pipes.

well right now all i have left in the truck is the engine block, we have the whole top of the engine off, heads, manifolds, exhaust, ect... so we have access to everything...where is the best place for it?...we were thinking the main exhaust pipe out the back of the engine, most accurate, gives overall reading of EGT instead of just one side ect ect....most big hauling trucks use that location...<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
What do you guys think? <o></o>
Raptor thanks for the input...the link to your picture didnt work though..<o></o>
Curt, that is a nice setup...i think i will really like the edge gauge setup...i also have a scan gauge II....will it do at least EOT, ECT?<o></o>
Thanks All!<o></o>

Are you referring to the downpipe? if so that is post turbo, and is several hundred degrees cooler and thus has different parameters as far as when to let of throttle. most including me want to monitor the exhaust temps pre-turbo so I know what the turbo is experiencing, that is where the 1300 max egt's everyone mentions. these are pre-turbo. some place two egt's one pre and one post turbo, it is really your choice. as long as you are monitoring it then you are ahead of the game

if you are referring to the main exhaust pipe that I assume to be the downpipe and thus is post turbo and is several hundred degrees cooler than pre-turbo as I have. most people including myself monitor the temps pre-turbo so we can see what the turbo is experiencing. it is personal preference and can be monitored either way just utilize cooler temps when monitoring egt's, the 1300 max egt number thast gets thrown around is pre-turbo, some even mplace two egt's one pre-turbo and one post turbo. hope this helps. but either way I would put the probe in an accessible spot so it can be accessed later if needed

I use post/pre turbo off the same gauge with a toggle switch. The pre spikes up to 1300 degree's Fahrenheit. The post up to 900 in elevation towing and takes a few minute's to come down...When using 8K tow tune.

Is that a hose clamp around the EGT sensor?

Are you referring to my Egt probe picture? It is a clamp that came with the temp probe. I think it is used for different applications, I threaded the manifold hole but wanted extra insurance it would not come out. Threading the manifold with a Chinese tap is fun fun

Looks like a hose clamp. Small aircraft use that type of temp gauge probe. Might be where he got it.
