Is there a fix for an analog trip odometer which won't reset?
The trip odometer on my '00 Ex won't reset to 000.0 although it keeps rolling over as usual. Is there some fix for this other than replacing the instrument cluster? TIA

Well, you COULD disconnect the battery for a few minutes...
You might get those quick-disconnect terminals if you really go this route on a regular basis - but it would save you some $$$.

I don't see how disconnecting the battery would work with his issue. He stated that the counter was analog and NOT digital.... Analog counters don't work off the battery, strictly off the speedo cable.
You may have to replace it but at least pull out cluster to try and finagle with it. rubbing alcohol with a q-tip?
Update: after getting to know this bug better I've discovered if I keep pushing the reset button it will eventually zero out. Sometimes it only takes a handful of times pushing on the reset button, other times it make take 30 seconds of repeatedly pushing the reset button BUT I am able to get to reset if I persist.fwiw
As Cubawashere stated, sounds like it's dirty. Rubbing alcohol with a q-tip will probably fix it.
Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I have the same behavior as the OP (trip OD continues to roll, and can be reset but only after multiple pushes if at all). No issues with the Mileage OD.
I have another dash apart and the mechanism is pretty tricky and looks like it would do better to spray it if I can keep it from flooding the display.
This is a 2002 E-250 work van that has lived in a pretty dusty Az environment.
This is the last thing for me to do after completing a Cruise control upgrade, Power Mirrors upgrade, replacing a broken electic windows servo, fuel pump assembly and other things to many to mention.

Had a similar problem with a 1942 Packard odometer. Took several years to realize it because some of the wheels were going forward, the 10K wheel was going backwards. Thought I was halucinating. Anyway, took it apart and cleaned the wheels. Fixed. Dirt gets in there and the wheels don't turn as freely as they should.
Don't see any mention of analog, if true, didn't realize earlier models had something different.
Edit:
DOH!
Thread title = analog
Checked out 2000 ex on cars.com, i see the old style trip meter...
:-)
The “old style” you refer to are the 2000 and 2001 models. Beginning in 2002 the odo went digital. There were a few changes from -01 to-02 such as power pedal adjustment, the digital odo among other minor things like a slight color changes. Btw, I believe there were more 2001’s manufactured than any other year.
Hope this useless bit of info helps someone.
