I have had this problem for a while. When driving or sometimes when starting the instrument guages go haywire. First the tach then fter a while all the guages. At start up I notice that it happens when it is very hot outside. Any clues to this problem?
They'll do this when the computer is reset which a dead or dying battery can cause. I'd start with a thorough check of the battery before doing anything else.
They just need some discipline - when the gauges start acting up, assert, in a firm voice, that their behavior is unacceptable.
Just kidding - I second Buzzard's opinion - the electrical in these trucks tends to get funky when the battery's getting ready to be lunched. Take it to a Sears or National Tire & Battery and tell them to run it through the SABRE machine. The SABRE machine runs a very comprehensive test on the battery and will find dead cells, etc. Very cool machine.
I also argee with the opinions above. Mine acted the same way because the battery was on it's way out the door. Changed the battery and all is sweet once again.
