Intermittent Limp mode,P1728
98expy 5.4 4x4.
One day I went to merge on the freeway so I floored it, the trans down shifted like it should, but due to another drive cutting me off, I had to let off the gas immediately.
I Then noticed the od light flashing. I pulled the codes and got p1728.
The problem seems to be intermittent though. One day I could go 15miles until the light flashes, next day only 4mi, then another day I could go 30mi without a light.
My question is since it seems intermittent, could the problem be the torque converter or maybe a sensor of some sort?

This code pops up when the TC won't go into lockup. There are several things that can cause lockup to fail. This is one of those rare instances where it will be cheaper to bring it to a tranny shop for diagnosis. Otherwise you'll end up throwing parts at it and spending more than the diagnostic fee.
