Hi guys, my '06 Expedition idles at a very low rpm (about 250-500 rpms) and it seems to have a slight lope to it when idling. It also has a tendency to stall when you slightly using the throttle, for example pulling into or backing out of a parking spot. It started doing it about a week or 2 after I replaced the coil packs and plugs. I have also replaced the fuel pump drive module. The fuel filter was changed about 12,000 miles ago, and I use injector cleaner about every 2-3 oil changes. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any input!
You may need to do a throttle body service. Basically wipe out all the carbon buildup in the throttle body where the throttle plate makes contact with the sides. Carbon can build up there and not allow the engine to get enough air to idle. You can clean it out with a rag and a can of throttle body cleaner most of the time.
I pulled off the intake and cleaned the throttle body like you said and now, no more loping when idling and throttle response is a lot better. I haven't ran it long enough yet to see if it still wants to stall out, but I think it worked. Many thanks for the tip!!
