Cleaned throttle body
My 98 Ranger has 90k on the odometer. It has the 2.5 engine and manual transmission. throttle body had never been serviced. The idle speed was down to 500 RPM and with the air conditioner on would hunt between 500-700 RPM. Kind of like a soft surge. I pulled the assembly and yuk! It was loaded with soft carbon. I used CRC Teflon safe Throttle body cleaner and a soft bristle brush to clean it. Idle is rock steady at 700 RPM with or without the compressor engaged. Throttle response is smoother and the engine even sounds quieter. Drivability is much improved. If you are having idle issues I'd recommend doing this service. It's easy to do and is cheap in the bargain.
