I picked up a 1966 straight 6 300 that looks really clean from a guy who got it in a package deal and he didnt have any use for it so i got it and the 3 speed tranny for 75 bucks. I'm trying to start it and hear it before committing to putting it in my 54 F100. I have no spark. I have my battery wired to the coil then the coil to the wire coming out of the distributor. I have the battery grounded to the block. i hold a battery cable to the starter and it turns over and thats it. I've pulled a spark plug and grounded it and have no spark. and my distributor turns.
I'm no mechanic by a long shot. any help would be great.
I hope that engine is mounted in something strong enough to handle the power
Safety first I would start by pulling the plugs to ck compression and to just look inside cylinder then ck carb look for bug, mice and dirt
Ck dizz for continuity and function of the points
If those are close along with timing it should start
Is your distributor complete inside? Points, condenser, rotor and ground wire inside? You have power to the (+) coil directly from the battery. Then I believe the green distributor wire to (-) coil. Last the terminal wire from coil to cap.
Then pull terminal wire from cap and ground to see if spark there. If spark then you have an issue inside the distributor. If no spark then the coil assuming the hookup to the coil is correct.
