Timken axle question

What is the difference between the 6.66 and 6.67 axle ratios? are they the same? this is confusing the ________________ out of me. my 52 owners manuals and 48 to 52 repair manuals tell me two different things. thanks. Mark G.

ps. the space above is a "fill-in-the-blank".

What year is the truck, what series is it? There's more than just one Timken rear axle.

Your "About Me" profile says 2003 F150, obviously not what the Timken is in.

You should list your trucks as a signature, so others will know what you're working on.

For any time you will be, should be in 4WD the .01 ratio difference will make no difference. I see this type difference listed between front and rear ratios.

Old thread but I do not care:
Don't think their was a ford 9" in 87-96 trucks (pretty sure they stopped in 84ish but not 100% sure as I stopped hanging around the bullnose club when we got rid of our 86) however a lot of people like to stick 9" rears in the 87-96 trucks and 40s trucks I believe. That is what I would personally do at least.

As a retired transmission engineer, I can tell you there is no gear set that would give you such a small difference. The actual ratio is likely 6.666666 and could be expressed as either 6.66 or 6.67. An example gear set giving that ratio would be a 9 tooth pinion and a 60 tooth ring. I'm sure you would be safe to assume both stated ratios represent the same gear set.

I used to have a 1959 factory 4x4 before my 51. (I should never have sold ) It had a 3.92 front axle with a 3.89 rear axle. Unlike newer vehicles it was never intended to run on dry roads on 4wd.

Wish I had a picture of my beast!
